Lost in the noise of pandemic fears and stock market fluctuations is the story of artists everywhere. 2020 has been an incredibly complicated year, full of hardships for communities worldwide. But art has prevailed, and continues to find new ways of persisting, despite the many hurdles placed in its path.

As unemployment rises and political divisiveness grows, expression itself often feels under attack. When so much is at stake, artistic creation can take on a crude caricature of itself as a superfluous activity. The truth is, artistic creation has never been more powerful or in demand. As we spiritually struggle, whatever our religious persuasion, art provides a path forward.

It’s not a coping mechanism for a society on the rocks. It’s a deep breath of redefinition. Re-imagining ourselves as we are and can be, both good and bad. Only artists can facilitate this dialogue.

The true story of 2020 for galleries worldwide is one of artists rising to meet insurmountable challenges. Art as dialogue lives within the individual hearts of everyone in our industry. Art’s ability to provide a medium through which our struggles can be assessed and understood makes it invaluable.

The need for artists to convene and discuss their work is greater than ever. We appreciate your participation in this space, either as an artist, aficionado, or simply an interested individual. The fact that you’re reading these words means the world to us, because you’re part of this movement.
